چکیده

Techniques based on the frequency-response masking (FRM) approach are known to be highly effective for reducing the number of multipliers and adders in linear-phase finite-impulse response (FIR) filters. The basic FRM structure comprises a band-edge shaping filter and two masking filters. It is observed that the impulse response of the band-edge shaping filter of an FRM structure exhibits a quasi-periodic property. Previous study showed that lowpass or highpass digital FIR filters, whose impulse responses are quasi-periodic, can be synthesized using extrapolated impulse response technique, which leads to structure with much reduced arithmetic complexity. In this paper, an implementation of the extrapolated impulse response filter is presented. An FRM technique incorporating extrapolated impulse response band-edge shaping filter is introduced. An iterative optimization procedure is proposed to design the FRM sub-filters. It is demonstrated using an example taken from the literature that our new technique produces a saving of over 20% in the number of multipliers used. r 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Design of IIR Digital Filter using Modified Chaotic Orthogonal Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (RESEARCH NOTE)

There are two types of digital filters including Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) and Finite Impulse Response (FIR). IIR filters attract more attention as they can decrease the filter order significantly compared to FIR filters. Owing to multi-modal error surface, simple powerful optimization techniques should be utilized in designing IIR digital filters to avoid local minimum. Imperialist compe...

High-Speed Recursive Digital Filters Based on the Frequency-Response Masking Approach

The frequency-response masking approach for highspeed recursive infinite-impulse response (IIR) digital filters is introduced. In this approach, the overall filter consists of a periodic model filter, its power-complementary periodic filter, and two masking filters. The model filters are composed of two all-pass filters in parallel, whereas the masking filters are linear-phase finite-impulse re...

Optimization Of Frequency-Response Masking Based Fir Filters

A very efficient technique to drastically reduce the number of multipliers and adders in implementing linear-phase finite-impulse response (FIR) digital filters in applications demanding a narrow transition band is to use the frequency-response masking (FRM) approach originally introduced by Lim. The arithmetic complexity can be even further reduced using a common filter part for constructing t...
